Each SCM5B module provides a single channel of isolated analog input or output. The input modules interface to industrial sensors. The analog inputs include voltage and current in narrow and wide bandwidths, a thermocouple, RTD, an accelerometer, a potentiometer, a strain gauge, frequency, and 2-/3-/4-wire transmitters. The output modules accept a high-level analog voltage signal from a host system and provide process current or voltage output to field devices.

The SCM5B input modules filter, isolate, amplify, and convert the input signal to a high-level analog voltage or current output. The output modules accept a high-level analog voltage signal from a host system, then buffer, isolate, and amplify before providing a process current or voltage output to field devices. The modules are CSA C/US-certified for safe operation in Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, and D hazardous environments. They are also CE-/ATEX-compliant. Accessories include addressable and non-addressable single, dual, and 8-/16-channel back-panels including onboard temperature sensors and cold junction thermocouple compensation, power supplies, mounting racks, interface cables, and evaluation boards.

Dataforth's SCM5B modules offer several advantages including 50 times better noise rejection using a 6-pole filter with 95 dB NMR versus other solutions that offer a 3-pole filter with 60 dB NMR. The lower output noise and true 3-way isolation of 1,500 V between the field and host system protect user equipment from lightning and heavy equipment power-line voltages. The CMR is 20 dB better for noise spikes and signal filtering in noisy environments than other models, reducing electrical noise in measured signals. The modules can be individually exchanged, added, or removed in a system, allowing for convenient repairs or system expansions while simplifying the sensor interface and signal conditioning design simultaneously. The isolation barrier provides isolation of external sensors and breaks ground loops. The state-of-the-art analog design reduces EMC concerns and other advantages allow for worry-free Dataforth signal conditioning solutions.
